Hey there! My name is Bryan Miller, owner of Blue Harbor Electric. Not only am I the owner, but I'm the technician as well. So, when you hire Blue Harbor Electric, you will get me at your front door, every time. As the business owner and technician, I personally guarantee top-quality electrical service.
Having been born in Charlotte in 1983, and raised in Huntersville since 1988, Lake Norman has always been called home to me. I was blessed with amazing parents. My father, Bruce, is a successful, self-employed real estate appraiser and my mother, Lynne, has worked for the school system for decades, mainly at Cornelius Elementary. Through them, I was able to learn the importance of hard work, honesty, and family.
When I was a child, Huntersville was more of a farming town than anything, populated more by cows than people. Birkdale, Rosedale, Northcross, and so many more major developments were nothing more than open fields, lined with old wooden posts and barbed wire fencing. Eventually, as you can now tell, the area started booming with growth. With that growth came an abundance of residential new construction. That surge in new construction is what got me on the right professional path. A path that I am still on today.
I am also a proud father of two amazing kids. My daughter, Brianna, born in 2003, and my son, Derek, born in 2009. They have always been the source of my motivation and ambition in life. Becoming a father has always been, and will always be, my greatest and most rewarding accomplishment.
Growing up, I attended Huntersville Elementary, Hornet's Nest Elementary, Alexander Middle School, Northwest School of the Arts, and North Mecklenburg High School, where I enjoyed two seasons playing on the school's ice hockey team. After high school, I entered the workforce. At first, I thought that the automotive repair industry would be a good fit for me. Although I was good at it, I just didn't feel that it was where I belonged. This is when I decided to give the electrical trade a try.
I started my apprenticeship with Frye Electric in the fall of 1999. At the time, Frye Electric was one of the largest electrical contractors in Charlotte, having wired thousands of new homes being built at the time. It was here that I was able to learn the ins and outs of residential wiring. I worked every day to learn the code, learn the best practices, and advance my skill level.
Having spent the first 22 years of my life in the Charlotte area, in 2005, I decided to go somewhere completely different. So, I moved to Mobile, Alabama. After working for a short time at Austal USA, learning to be a ship fitter, I quickly realized how much I missed the electrical industry.
After spending a couple of months wiring tug boats in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. I decided to go back to doing residential wiring. This is when I found my place with South Alabama Electric. The most reputable electrical contractor in Mobile.
The years I spent employed at South Alabama Electric were some of the most important. Being a service company, I was able to learn so much than ever before. Instead of just wiring new home, they were a full service electrical company, installing and servicing all aspects of the electrical industry. From historical home re-wiring, commercial lighting and troubleshooting skills, to the world of industrial wiring.
Being on the Gulf Coast in 2005, I was able to witness first hand, the amount of destruction that Hurricane Katrina caused, and how it affected so many lives. I spent years traveling between Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, doing electrical repairs from the damage it caused. As well as installing home generators that were provided by FEMA.
Then, in 2008, the recession greatly affected Mobile. So many electricians were laid off, including myself. There was no work to be found. My only option was to hit the road, going wherever the work was. From 2009 to 2013, being employed with Tradesmen International, I went all over. Including the BP Cooper River plant in Charleston, SC, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, and the Thyssenkrupp steel mill in Mobile, AL. I ended up in Corpus Christi, Texas, wiring oil rigs for Shell Oil.
In 2013, after years of traveling and having to live out of hotels, I headed back to Mobile after gaining employment at Smith Electric. Here, I was able to get back to doing what I loved, residential service work. Not to mention, sleeping in my own bed! It was in 2015 when I was able to acquire my Alabama Journeyman's license. Something that most electricians in Mobile did not have. After 2 years back in Mobile, and realizing that the local economy just never truly recovered from the recession, I knew it was time for a change. After discovering the abundance of job opportunities back in Charlotte, I made the decision to come back home. It wasn't easy leaving Mobile. But I knew in my heart that it was the right decision.
So, in the Summer of 2015, I made the move. Within a couple of weeks, and being offered multiple employment opportunities, I accepted an offer from Caryl Mechanicals to be a new construction electrical supervisor. I spent my time supervising multiple crews all over the Charlotte area and working directly with the home builders to ensure that homes passed inspections and schedules were met.
In February of 2017, I passed the exam to become a licensed electrical contractor. A week later, I started Energy-X Electric. After only one year of having to find jobs on Thumbtack, I found myself having enough repeat business and referrals to keep me busy. I will forever be grateful for every customer. They are the fuel that keeps my business running.
After 7 years of Energy-X Electric, I felt it time to re-brand. I wanted an image that better represented the person I am. Therefore, in 2024, Blue Harbor Electric came to be. Same great service, different name. So, if you need a highly experienced, trustworthy electrician, look no further!

I'm Bryan, owner of Blue Harbor Electric. Most people are unaware that in today's local market, there are many electricians that are guilty of serious price gouging. Electricians that are more focused on making a sale than making a customer. Electricians that are quoting jobs 3 to 4 times higher than they should be.....
Before you risk becoming a victim to a greedy contractor, allow me to give you a quote. You could possibly save hundreds, if not thousands. All without sacrificing great customer service and workmanship.
Thank you for considering Blue Harbor Electric!
